DIY: Camera Bag/Purse

Finally! My camera has a home and it's not on the floor. It's exactly what I wanted, well runner up at least I really had my eye on the Epiphanie Lola bag in red but they weren't going to be in stock until May and I needed something now. So after a trip to T.J. Maxx for a purse with a similar look and feel like the Lola I busted out the sewing machine to make some removable inserts to hold my camera equipment.

This is my everyday bag so it didn't need it to hold more than a camera and 2 lenses and possibly a flash.

Total Project Cost: $37

Purse: $25
Foam : $9
Fabric: $1
Velcro: $2

Project Time: 2 hours

Materials:

1 purse
24"x 40" piece of fabric
15" x 17" piece of 1 inch foam
24 inches of sewing Velcro

I thumbed through examples on Pinterest for inspiration and looked at the interior of my  Kelly Moore camera bag to get an idea of how to construct the inside padding since nothing was exactly as I wanted I ended up just winged it. The hardest part was coming up with an insert that didn't have to attach to the purse itself so I could continue to use it as a purse in the future.

I ended up making all the inserts and dividers to be 100% removable.
I also made it so the bag will close completely and keep the camera concealed.

There are 2 removable center dividers so the bag can be reconfigured depending on my needs for that day. I couldn't be happier about how easy it is to adjust and access the equipment once it's in.

The bottom and sides are one big piece that way I didn't need to add any velcro to the purse and with having the three sides as one they lock in into place with no movement what so ever and it makes the inserts a one step process when it comes time remove.

Be sure to make extras of the small dividers just in case one should get lost. I made two but I will only really need one most of the time, here's the step by step on the dividers:

as shown fits 24-70mm f/2.8 with lens hood on and the Canon 5D Mark II with 50mm F/1.8 attached
