I have the need to travel

in unusual ways........
DeRedding KDV Cargo Bike

You can bring every one along with this trike (kids, friends, fam ily pets, grand par ents, etc.). Made in the Nether lands (of course), the DeRed ding KDV fits up to 8 chil dren on its tan dem benches with a pro tec tion bar for each bench (like an amuse ment park ride, more con ve nient than indi vid ual seat belts).

These are often used instead of a bus by many schools and day care cen ters in Holland. Avail able world wide, though not cheap at €2950,

Tonke Campers

I am in love...

.Tonke Campers

Tonka Campers, cre ated by Dutch documentary film maker Maarten Van Soest (and named after Maarten’s daugh ter), offer a refresh ing take on dis pos able travel. They are obso lete already, in the best pos si ble way, and mature rather than date.

Eschew ing the typical molded plas tic and vinyl, they are hand-built in a village in the south of the Netherlands using tra di tional meth ods and mate ri als. Rus tic lux ury awaits on the inside, with pol ished mahogany fit tings, teak floors, porce lain sinks, chrome faucets and glass windows.

In as lit tle as 15 minutes, the camper unit can be removed from the vehicle, allowing for placement in a garden as a guest cot tage or inspi ra tional workplace.

precious cargo bike

and this is what I ride to the grocery store, work and what I'd bring my one daughter to school in before she decided to stay home and school with her siblings.

The Madsen bucket bike

I do wear a helmet just not for the photo. The bucket bike seats up to 4 kids on two benches and has seatbelts and 8 speeds, I've recently been looking into electrifying my Madsen since the kids don't seem to be getting any smaller. I have great love for this bicycle and the opportunity and freedom it has given me to be able to get back into cycling after having 4 kids.

Antique French number bracelets

I made these bracelets using antique handpainted French enamelware numbers I order off Ebay from a seller in Belgium.

I made one for each of the kids and myself

and used a waxed leather for some and waxed cotton twine for the others. They're tied with slip knots so they can be adjusted to fit and slide off easily.

I'm looking into ordering more numbers , if anyone's interested in me making one to order leave me a message in the comments.Thanks.

Modeling 101

Little E had her first modeling gig Sunday she was so cute and wanted to do everything the other kids were told to do, she jumped , she ran , she smile and held hands with a boy, I just love her so much and it probably helped that her Mommy was the photographer. Here's a few of the pictures for the shoot for Sundae Afternoon.

I'll post a link as soon as the Sundae Afternoon website is up and running.

Water wars

The kids spent the morning on the back porch giggling , laughing and getting soaked playing with water guns they got at birthday party yesterday

AP thought he was safe making funny faces at his sisters through the back door

no one was safe from the dueling water guns even me hiding behind a Captain American shield trying to take photos of the mischief and mayhem.

The kids are just loving the new mixer, they've made ginger cupcakes (recipe here) and pizza dough so far....

and wrote their names in chalk all over it.

Aidan is just so proud of teaching himself how to write his name I just don't have the heart to tell him the letters are out of order.

The trashy neighbor...

Have you ever just wanted to go through a neighbors garbage?

I really did yesterday as I rode my bicycle to the grocery store, our family spends countless hours sorting and recycling to help the environment taking out only one 10 gallon kitchen trash bag a month and the neighbor around the corner had 7  bags of garbage tossed to the curb 90% of which I could see through the white bags was recyclable. Oh how I wanted to sort out the trash but I didn't have time to run out and buy a Hazmat suit, is it really my business or should our city be doing more to encourage residents to recycle?

Let's go nuts for Baked Doughnuts!

I found this recipe over at the Vegan Guinea pig
and can't wait to have my first doughnut in 18 years! (It's been that long since I developed my awful food allergies and after I working at a doughnut shop for 2 years before college up in NY I got over eating them rather quickly).
I'll be sure to change out the margarine with real butter or canola oil since I'm highly allergic to soy.

Baked Donuts
Makes approximately 1 dozen donuts and donut holes

½ cup + 3 tablespoons rice milk
2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
2 tablespoons shortening
1/3 cup sugar
2 ½ cups unbleached all purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
Pinch of nutmeg and cinnamon

Topping:
¼ cup Earth Balance Margarine, melted
½ cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Warm milk on the stove top for about 2 minutes (just before the point of boiling, you don’t want it to get hot, just warm). Add to the bowl of a standing mixer. Stir in yeast and let sit for 5 minutes. Beat in shortening, sugar and ½ cup flour, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon until incorporated. Change to the dough hook and add the remaining 2 cups of flour. Beat for 2 minutes, scraping down the sides as needed. If the dough is too stick at this point add a tablespoon of flour at a time until it becomes more smooth and elastic. If the dough is too dry add rice milk, a tablespoon at a time, until dough becomes smooth and elastic. Once the desired texture is reached form dough into a ball within the bowl and cover. Set in a warm place and allow to double in size, this should take about an hour.

Preheat oven to 375oF and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Once the dough has doubled, punch it down onto a lightly floured surface and then roll it out to about ½ inch thickness. Using a donut cutter(Only about $4.99 on amazon or $6 at Williams Sonoma) cut out donuts and arrange on the prepared baking sheet about an inch apart. Repeat until all the dough is used. I like donut holes as well so instead of rolling the middles of the donuts back into the dough I just baked up the donut holes alongside the regular donuts.

Bake donuts and donut holes for 8 to 10 minutes or until they become golden. While donuts are baking combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

Remove donuts from the oven and allow to cool just enough so you can handle them. Dip each donut into the melted margarine then into the sugar/cinnamon mixture. Serve immediately.

If you have left over’s serve them warm the next day by heating them up in a toaster oven.

ENJOY!

No, Aidan, There isn't a Fingernail fairy.

Here's a little story about the imagination of a 5 year old boy, it's starts when his finger was closed in the bedroom door by big sis which was followed by a whole lot of crying and the reality that his nail had met it's demise . Everyday he would talk about his finger, he watched as it turned from purple, then blue then black and he dreamt of what was going to happen to "little fingy"  when the nail finally off  he had it all planned out but forgot to tell me, so when "little fingy" finally lost it's nail he ran happily over to me to show off the new one and asked me to hold the one that fell off which I quickly tosses onto the gravel road as walked back to the car from soccer practice, so it was a surprise to me when he burst into tears and began frantically searching the ground for his nail as he cried the fingernail fairy was going to come! We search long and hard but couldn't find the nail, I was feeling like a really bad Mom and so his sisters and I decided to tell him there wasn't going to be a visit from the finger nail fairy since the idea of a fairy collecting dead finger nails was just simply gross and after a long discussion on the subject he accepted there was no fingernail fairy and no haircut fairy and no eyelash fairy, just the tooth fairy and I apologized for not asking before I threw it away.

the yellow thumb gardner.

I can't say I have much of a green thumb since my vegetable garden doesn't seem to have even a lettuce leaf to show for all our hard work, but a yellow thumb well maybe if you count the hundreds of yellow colored wildflowers growing in our horseshoe drive garden bed even after I pulled all of them up last year and tilled they came back better than ever so I don't know if that qualifies me as a green or yellow thumb gardener or one at all, but I do know is what I kill comes back stronger than ever next time. You should see the crepe myrtle trees I almost killed two years ago.

most of the flowers are yellow and deep red

some turned out to be all red

some all yellow

but we think they'll beautiful

A Fairy good day!

Yesterday the girls had a friend over and spent the afternoon looking for fairies, they spotted a few wings and some fairy cats and fed them chocolate which I guess is not poisonous to fairy cats.

Here's to a world of childhood possibilities.

You are more...

Found on Heidi Claire
(unknown origin)

One of those days...again

Started of great, it was Mother's Day and I got to spend tons of time with my kids , we spent the afternoon rearranged the girls bedroom, I finally finished their mirror and we ate pancakes and pizza, yum.

Then I had to go to work no big deal usually but this time was different see I'm 35 and have never been to a bar/tavern and it turns out a trip to one could potentially lead to a trip to the ER. No , I didn't end up there but between the cigg smoke, the beer, and pepper coated crawfish all to which I have severe allergies and not to mention the the louder than loud music that could lead to hearing loss I had the ER on speed dial. So I can safely say I wont be missing out if I don't go to a bar again in the next 35 years of my life.

On my way home from work I didn't get any messages saying stop at the store on the way home we have a tp emergency so boy or should I say girl was I surprise when I found the last roll of tp floating in the potty and all I could do was laugh. Life is full of unknowns and new experiences and there's always something new floating in the toilet.

Secrets Saturday #6

How to get Chewy Chocolate Chip cookies!

Add more brown sugar to your recipe to get a really chewy cookie. I add 1 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 of white sugar , most cc cookie recipes call for 3/4 brown and 3/4 white.

Also make sure you use room temperature butter, melted butter will make the cookie crispy.

Our chocolate chip cookies today were awesome and super duper chewy I went and added 1 1/4 cups of brown sugar for extra chewy cookie perfection!

Secrets Saturday #5

This was a secret to me until yesterday, a very perplexing mystery that happens every night about 2 hours after my 3 year-old daughter falls asleep, she'll start screaming, talking incoherently and reaching for something saying Mommy! Mommy! But she never acknowledges me even if I hold her. So finally I ask what is it you're dreaming about and having nightmares every night? She says "cheese". I am not kidding it turns out I have passed on my obsession with cheese to Little E and she screams in the middle of the night because she's wants to eat cheese in her sleep.

Mystery solved or maybe the moon really is made of cheese?
